Interesting - Not directly related to management

This is a great article on WSJ.com: How to Get a Real Education. What are your thoughts on how to apply this to work?

  1. Rebecca,

Thank you for posting that article. It is ironic that you sent that. In response to the JPS tracking system, we have reorganized the Electronic Publishing staff in Production into four mini-teams and I have been coaching them on running their teams like businesses. I have them creating mission statements, outlining goals and objectives, and I have been stressing the idea of taking ownership.

So far, there has been mixed feelings. Those who love the idea are way ahead on preparing for working with dual tracking systems simultaneously. Some are skeptical, which I can understand as well. This concept is new and definitely outside of their comfort zones. I am encouraging communication within the team, and peer mentorship between teams.

I also wanted to share a video that I watched a few months back that I refer to from time to time by Cameron Herold. It is very relevant to this discussion.

  2. Randy,

Great video! You'll need to show me how to load one.

His story of his childhood entrepreneurship reminds me a lot of Tony Hsieh of Zappos Shoes. You should read his book "Delivering Happiness"
